I was in the class with J, the student who called out one of the teachers for making fun of him. That’s a lie the teacher didnt make fun of anybody. The student was complaining to friend that Sheridan teachers wouldn’t budge on exam dates because he screwed up the midterm break and booked a tropical vacation with his family during exams. The professor told the student that break week is called reading week because students are expected to stiudy for exams. Not Sheridans fault he didn’t check the calander. I had a good time in classes and finished with a good degree and a job. Not every teacher is perfect but none of them suck.
Student if you dish drama on the confession about your own classmate, cause you do not like how they text and pretty much breath.
This is not tea spilling it is fucking harrassment, which I frankly had enough off. If you are posting about mental illness, anxiety , taking drugs the list.
Use a social services worker and help yourselves. The fact you all need to go on social media and make hate comments is concerning. On a public fb post.
Be ready take on the hate you will get about it. You all put your selves on a public Facebook page thinking, we got the tea on this classmate poor behavior / mental health concern. Gossip is hate , hate you are spreading it.
I am suspened from the college . I cannot contact anyone on how this page impacted hurt me, several others, you guys are lucky like that yea rights and responsibilities should be up your asses on this.
You may not be caught, but like come on your taking people misfortunes as hot tea and they are not even public figures. That is fucked up. Since I can disagree right.
I posted on this page hoping to help the people that were being isolated telling them it does get better, it is okay.
I got bad press for telling someone not hurt themselves over the stress of the program their end. Came at me and said I was too much. You are abusive. A s**t talker, yes dumb f**k you are violating Sheridan student code of conduct cause this is harrassment and stalking. Someone could and will hurt themselves over this page. It will be too late before the college address or investigate this.
I get mad at people posting confession, I was in trouble and I am suspened for my martial status and how my online persona was viewed over text, I was the person who had guts to go to someone in person and tell them how I felt. Even though i am here now. I can go to someone and tell them my feelings. Not go on fb and tell the whole damn school. Get a new hobby. Yes its okay to be hurt. This school has hurt me.
I have no other choice but to come on college times and report this incident here of abuse from the case facilator because as a client I have a set of rights that cannot be dodged under the human rights code from unwanted forms of counselling even under impelled consent, I can still say I disagree with how she expressed several points on my behavior and I am pretty she is the reason why my complaints are not being taken as serious as they should be, on how is she speaking to students on the verge of suspension or more. This will probarly get looked and so forth, if I was this person client and I am coming out here saying this case facilator shammed me the whole entire session I am allowed to leave a negative review. She needs to be more empathic to the students of sheridan if she is wanting to work as a mental health aid relief or safe placed, I do not agree with her pratice on the students, I feel like she has emotionally injured several students.
If you can avoid this school don’t go, I had a horrible experience with the rights and responsabities/ mental health center at sheridan. I did the right thing on going to get help for my diffuculties in my program, after trying to file a formal complaint against this school avoiding to have the conflict being dumped on the student. The college management need to go back to senstivity training and understanding how peel police probarly works before reporting students and wasting a lot of people time, causing the students a lot of stress and hardship.
Rights and Responsablities office well doesn’t support students with emotional/ physchological needs well enough during their session, lack of empathy for any students that cry and automatically need to to link their distruptive behavior to the cops. This a long list of concerns and vocal concerns that college just does not wanna do anything about because of impelled consent. I tried to report abuse pretty much I am the one here got suspened over trying to get help, tossed out the harrassment card by management who were baised in their decision making. if anyone that goes here this school is not mental health friendly. it’s a shame.
Do not go to this school, it’s a complete rip-off. There may have been a time when Sheridan lived up to its reputation and actually helped prepare students for a career, but that ended a long time ago.
First, the instructors are completely hit or miss. I’ve had some teachers who are focused, organized, and always go the extra mile to help students learn, but I’ve also had some who clearly don’t care whether we learn anything or not. Teachers who do nothing more than dictate assignments and use the rest of the class as a “work period” without any instruction, teachers who do nothing but read their own lecture notes, and teachers who spend the period talking about random stuff that has nothing to do with the assignment. For example, in first year Story Development, you rarely do any actual storyboards. Instead, you learn boring, outdated film terminology, perform “shot analysis” exercises on old films, and learn how to format a script based on a given film sequence (I should point out that modern animated films prepare scripts for the voice actors AFTER the storyboards are finalized, and camera instructions are decided in layout). While I have a lot of respect for this particular instructor, I didn’t learn anything of value from his class. Second year animation is taught by the program’s coordinator, whose level of expertise doesn’t even come close to the instructors in first year.
Second, the curriculum needs a serious overhaul. First year life drawing, for example, is anatomy focused, and while a solid understanding of anatomy is important for any character-based career in this field, the way it’s presented is practically useless. Why are animators expected to memorize the Latin names of every single bone and muscle in the body, and draw detailed skeletal diagrams with labeling? This would be essential learning for medical illustrators, but not animators. It does not properly address construction, gesture and form, and there are students in third year who still struggle with these basic concepts. Currently, students are expected to create 3D environments in second year, at the same time that they’re learning basic modeling. In third year, the entire curriculum revolves around the group film project rather than continue to teach fundamental skills. And in fourth year, all you do is a thesis film. You only take a total of three courses, two of which are breadth electives, and the school still charges over $10,000. That is highway robbery.
Third, the school’s administration is a joke. The instructors have no control over their own curriculum; it’s all decided by bureaucrats who have never worked in the industry. Last year, in Sheridan’s quest do become a full fledged university, the curriculum went through a radical change for which students were only given one semester’s notice. The school removed acting and character design from second year, and fired one of the program’s best instructors because he doesn’t have a degree, which makes him ineligible to teach in an Honours Bachelor degree program, even though he has more than thirty years of professional experience. And then the strike happened. While I realize it was beyond the school’s control, the way they chose to handle it was insulting. We weren’t informed of any proceedings, we were never given information as to the school’s plan once the strike ended, and student concerns were never properly addressed. All the while, they had the nerve to pretend they were on our side, and even tried to turn us against our own instructors, with a false claim that the union demanded a $5000 return-to-work per teacher bonus DURING a media embargo. They even thought they could buy us off with a $500 grant, which didn’t even cover the money we spent on rent while we patiently waited for the strike to end. And instead of actually listening to the students, they decided to cram the remainder of the year into a shortened time frame, even though the majority of students wanted to start the year over.
After all that, I decided I’d had enough. I’m not going back, and I do not recommend the school to anyone. Overall, I’d say it’s an okay program, but it is not worth the money. You’re much better off taking online courses, or finding a school that actually cares about its students.
Had a really bad experience this past June with Quintin Hewlett – a professor who had eavesdropped on a conversation I was having with a fellow student before the beginning of one of his lectures. He proceeded to critisize and belittle me infront of the entire class about the topic and gave me no chance to defend myself. After attempts to get the professor to drop the topic and start his lecture failed, I left the classroom and submitted a complaint to the faculty office. I met with the Associate Dean – Pat Burns who initially made me feel like I made the right choice in reporting the incident and who advised me she would look into transferring me to another class/professor. It took her over 2 weeks to advise me that a transfer was not an option (she did not proactively tell me btw, I had to reach out several times to request an update first). In addition to telling me she could not transfer me, she also asked that I sweep the issue under the rug and go speak with the professor directly to resolve it during the next class – a total reversal from what she had told me during our first meeting. I told her I would not be attending this professors class again and that they needed to find another solution for me. I also reiterated to her that it was not right what this professor did and that he acted very unprofessionally and that as a paying student, I do not have to put up with this. She told me she was working on a solution for me and then for an additional 3 weeks, she ignored my requests for an update while I continued to attend my 5 other classes and tried my best to self-teach myself the content from this 6th class… I met with another lady in the faculty office – Sarah Deazevedo – after 2 weeks of no answer who told me she would look into it and get the other Associate Dean involved since Pat was not responding to me and would get back to me ASAP. She also proceeded to ignore my for a week. When Pat was finally back in the office and could meet with me, we had a tense meeting where she presented her solution to me… An independent study, administered by the same idiot professor who acted unprofessionally in the first place and that same professor would be the one grading it. Of course, I’m not pleased with this resolution as it 1) Makes it seem as though the school does not care about what he did to me… and 2) Opens the door wide open for this moron to grade my work with bias. When I brought these concerns up to Pat, the response given was that disciplinary action against professors was confidential and that if I feel there is bias after getting a grade for my work that I am welcome to submit a dispute. Obviously it seems the school is not taking my complaint seriously and is choosing not to address it… After my final meeting with Pat, I had escalated this to the Dean – Dave Wackerlin – who took Pat’s side – ignoring the fact that Pat and Sarah blatantly ignored my requests and it took over 6 weeks to get a resolution. I have had some really great professors but the fact that the management is as bad as it is and that there seems to be zero support for students, it’s not worth the trouble! There are also many issues involving administration and financial aid. A recent example: the school did not send out any notification to students advising we needed to pay a $500 deposit by mid-July to get our September timetables. There’s alot of confusion as we were supposed to have our timetables by now but many students were unaware of this deposit… I do not recommend this College to anyone. They really don’t think of things from students perspectives. Spend your tuition money elsewhere!
Horrible school, horrible professors especially Stephanie Reid and Christine Gigler.
Stephanie Reid has sexually harassed me and assaulted me. My classmates at that time, fucking bitches pretended they did not hear or see anything. Yet most of them laughed at what she did to me. Stephanie Reid is still allowed on school property with those bitches and I am not because I spoke against them, after what they have done to me. That’s not right!!! Terrible experience with the staff members there, especially stephanie, tried to get my courses exempt and she was no where to be found. Half way through the semester and still no courses exempt. It’s ridiculous, im paying money to go to this school and you cant get in contact with anyone. Staff shows no concern for your issues, they don’t know whats going on, and are not trained. So unprofessional. I recommend going to humber if you can, I’ve been to both schools and that one was a lot better.
Very poor quality. Administration is useless, the bookstore is consistently out of stock, teachers dont show up for class and if they do they dont do their jobs.
The college also has a bad reputation in the working world. Some employers specifically avoid Sheridan graduates. Save yourself the stress and disappointment, go elsewhere for your education.
Went to sheridan for the animation program due to its reputation, and was very disappointed. Very little in terms of tangible theory; you would be better off with $100 worth of leading art books, or videos off of the Gnomon workshop. Instructors are often not very knowledgeable, and can be opinionated, rash, and downright abusive. Classmates are often exceedingly immature and difficult to work with; making group work nearly impossible. You will need to be a self-taught learner because you will not be getting any support from your classes.
Overall Sheridan’s animation program has a reputation that it does not live up to. Anyone looking at animation as a career I would highly caution you before going to this school.
I am currently a first year ECE student at Sheridan Trafalgar Campus and have been absolutely appalled by the lack of professionalism and intelligence from the professors.
They began the semester by telling us were all adults and were their equals and will be treated as such. After the first few weeks I noticed they did not truly feel this way. Teachers were rude and seemed highly uneducated / unprofessional. Constant grammar mistakes, inability to explain concepts they were teaching, and a few teachers made me and my peers feel completely belittled.
The unprofessionalism continued when multiple teachers were constantly late for class. A few of my profs. never replied to any emails that my peers and I sent to them regarding assignments and other course related questions. One prof. didn’t even provide us with a review for the midterm and then wondered why majority of the class failed the exam.
One of my peers was obviously targeted by a certain teacher who constantly failed her on multiple assignments. When called out for the improper marking, she was quick to fix it before we took it to the academic dean.
Lastly, the schools site where you pic your courses is constantly having issues, especially on days where we are to pick our next semester classes. The site gets so overwhelmed by how many people are accessing it at once that it will just crash every time you try to log on. When this happened it not only caused me to be late for my morning class since I was trying to build my schedule, but it also caused me to not get into one class that I needed because it filled up. Me being unable to get into this time slot caused me to have to cut down on my hours at work, therefore making paying for tuition that much harder.
I find this school and this program specifically quite juvenile and would not suggest it to anyone who wants a professional education.
I took the January Art Fundamentals program and it was bitter sweet. It was about a 50/50 split between teachers that actually did their jobs and other who either completely picked favorites and did not help the other students with any technical work. I was enrolled in the Crafts and Design Textiles program for 2015 but for financial and stress reasons I withdrew my application before the 10th day of class and was SUPPOSED to be refunded the 3,000 some I payed in tuition. I’ve been trying to get through to someone in their financial support but every time they forward my call to the person who’s supposed to take care of it they aren’t in or they don’t pick up. If you want to attend a college/university with the least amount of pretentious staff and admin that actually does their job I would not recommend Sheridan. Its horrible.
I have spent three years at this campus for Art Fundamentals and Visual and Creative Arts and it really sucked. There was horrible excuses of human beings as classmates and some of the teachers (ex. Art History teacher)seemed to be there to yell at your face for no reason. And by the time I got to 3rd year, the Art Fundamentals program seemed to have finally got there act together when it came to their curriculum, but I wasn’t there anymore to experience it. They said so many times at Open houses that they will help you create great art for your portfolio, but in the end, I’m lucky that 25% of my portfolio came from my art classes. And during the 3rd year of my program, the teachers wanted to focus so much on critical thinking in your art that they no longer cared about if your life drawing and painting skills have improved or not. I ended up fighting with my painting teachers because they yelled at me for no reason or didn’t respond to me back when it came to needing help with an assignment. If you are planning to take Art Fundamentals or Visual and Creative Arts year 2/year 3, rethink your decision.

GREAT INSTITUTE
Never fail a class at this school. You are treated very poorly if you do. The office of the registar is useless and if they can find a way to screw you over, they will.
The Business courses are very good. The visiting companies are often taking large number of students and course structure is rigorous but after all worthwhile.
